Pattaya's Darkside is not a place where 'dark' things happen so much as it's where almost all tourists don't know of and are 'in the dark' about what goes on there. This is comparable in some ways to Sonkhla's Darkside where the oil and gas industry workers tend to gravitate through. Although where that is more transport and entertainment only Pattaya's has more variety to it.
Located around and east of the railway line running through Pattaya district it has it's own identity of independent style and a fusion of farang expat and thai local.
Maprachan Lake is a nice place to hang out and chill, plus you've a few big swimming pools to choose from. It's not actually in 'Pattaya' at all, Pattaya being the beach / bay area for the most part. Chonburi province would more accurately describe this area. However because most of the expats here associate with Pattaya to a certain extent or once did, it's usually considered 'Pattaya' anyway!
Recreation in this area is typically the fledgling nightscene and by day the ample golfing areas.
The roads are fairly quiet, even on the main drag.
Recreational facilitywise it's a bit thin on the ground and the expat wanting to indulge in hobbies like golf or fitness might be better travelling to Pattaya and / or Darkside district.
